When chaos began to brew

It was last year at this time, as I prepared to hang the SPRING ART SHOW at HUNT & GATHER that all the chaos was brewing around Covid-19. Each season I change out the art at the studio and invite local artists to get involved and show their work. Since it was Spring the theme was centered around nature and the environment (ironically). The show was called REVIVE + REPURPOSE, a name I had borrowed from one of the contributing artists for the show, local eco-artist, Monica Dowell who had several beautiful eco-art pieces in the show.

The show was canceled indefinitely

The week the artists were supposed to drop off their work for the show was the week the Shelter In Place went into effect here in San Francisco. Needless to say, the show was canceled indefinitely and so were all our spring events and plans at H&G. Since some of the artists had already dropped off their work, I ended up hanging art on the wall and have continued to fill in the gaps little by little all year. The art has been hanging for the duration of 2020 and into 2021.

I got an idea!

In January of this year (2021), I decided to force myself to go to work at H&G rather than continuing to work from home. It was a new year, I needed new inspiration and I needed to get out of the house and out of my PJ’s. The kids were doing distance learning at home and they seemed to have their routine down without my help. As I began working at H&G I noticed a lot of people stopping to look in the window at the art wall and I got an idea!

Sidewalk Window Show?

After a year of waiting for things to go somewhat back to normal, I have decided to move forward with art shows at HUNT & GATHER. But instead of throwing a typical kick-off party with food and wine like we used to, we’ll have a sidewalk art sale and people can view the art from the window. Since we will not be offering events anymore I thought it would be fun to have the contributing artists work their magic in the window. So every weekend in spring we will have an artist on display demoing their process for all the people walking by. The art show’s opening reception is March 20, 2021, from 10 am-2 pm.

Featuring local art by Sarah Howard Joost, Robin Danks, and Anna Seva

This spring we will feature two of my most recent ARTdeezine clients, Sarah Howard Joost and Robin Danks, along with a floral designer, Anna Seva of Seva Floral.

Sarah recently started a business called Tails + Tales and she creates the most extraordinary PET PORTRAIT LOVE STORIES using a photo transfer process and mixed media. She weaves story into whimsically magic art pieces commemorating the love between humans and pets and then writes a story about the relationship and mounts it to the back of the art piece.

Robin’s work is colorful and fluid with tons of texture and strokes that bring life to her work. It will be so fascinating to watch them both in action when they do their magic in the window on the weekends (Sat-Sun 10 am-2 pm until mid June). Seva Floral will be installing her pieces in the window and throughout the space but also visible from the window.

Cheers to Spring, Hope, Creativity, and Community

I can’t wait to see the space transformed. After a year of grimness, I’m excited to have some creativity happening in the studio again. Even if we can’t gather like we used to, I’m hopeful and excited for this Spring! Walk by HUNT & GATHER located at 1108 Irving Street anytime this Spring for a window show! The show will be hung from March 20-June 13, 2021, with LIVE DEMOS every Saturday and Sunday 10 am-2 pm. We have prizes and surprises planned for opening day so if you can make it, you’ll be greeted with a champagne toast and other fun goodies! Be sure to RSVP so we have enough to go around. Cheers!
